We’re excited to announce that Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Co., Ltd. (MSI) and Aioi Nissay Dowa Insurance Co., Ltd. (ADI), both subsidiaries of the MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings, Inc. (MS&ADInsurance Group), have adopted Authlete’s OAuth and OpenID Connect (OIDC) backend service.
With Authlete, MSI and ADI implemented the OIDC open standard into their customer data infrastructures in six months, enabling secure contract data sharing with partner applications and single sign-on (SSO) from those applications to their policyholder portals.
MSI and ADI provide web portals for policyholders to view and change contracts, report accidents, and file claims. Both companies decided to adopt OIDC for their customer database infrastructures to securely provide contract information to partner apps used by customers and enable SSO from those apps to the policyholder site.
The OIDC infrastructure was implemented by MS&AD Systems Co., Ltd. (MS&AD Systems), which is also part of the MS&AD Insurance Group.
With a six-month development deadline and the need for continuous technical support, including feature additions and security updates, MS&AD Systems decided to use a Software as a Service (SaaS) solution for the implementation. The company compared multiple SaaS products, including Identity as a Service (IDaaS) solutions such as Auth0 and Authlete.
MS&AD Systems chose Authlete for its extensive track record in the financial sector—including insurance, banking, securities, and credit cards—and for the successful prior deployment by MS&AD Systems' development partner.
MS&AD Systems completed the OIDC implementation, from defining requirements through rollout and migration, within the scheduled six months. The OIDC server, implemented using the Authlete APIs, has been operating stably since October 2025.
"Authlete provided swift support during implementation. We were able to build the system efficiently by consolidating the Authlete license, in line with our company's policy to standardize common infrastructures across the MS&AD Insurance Group. A high-security standard is required in the financial industry, and we expect Authlete to continuously support security updates for the OIDC specifications."
